To Be Determined… (2023)
These works evoke a sense of home. Home to me is more of a feeling than a physical place. The emotions you feel when at home are what make something, or someone, your home. The gallery space I created is specifically designed and curated to fit my feelings of home, yet viewers can find their own connections to their homes within it. I want the audience to find belonging within my home, as a way for them to understand me, my past, and my future.
Philosophy’s idea of determinism lead me to an interest in how my parent's’ lives before I was born affect all that has happened in my own life. This work explores my dad and mom’s college experiences, especially my dad’s relationship with hockey, and how that relates to my relationship with tennis and art.
Making work of my family helps me feel close to them, and helps me reflect on why we care about the things we care about. It also gives me a better idea of my identity, which is always my never-ending quest to find in art-making.
