"Some Months at German Village Coffee Shop" (2025)
This book contains pen and colored pencil drawings, done from-life in real time, at the German Village Coffee Shop in Columbus, Ohio, over the span of 5 months in 2025. Each is paired with a short writing entry of what I overheard/experienced while dining and drawing. This book is an ode to the staff and community of GVCS; they truly inspired me, and my time in reflection there made me realize there are so many deeper meanings and truths to find when you are intentional in your moments.
While talking with the first few people to see this book, I realized it is not just a simple diary of happenings at a diner; Instead, it is a vessel that invokes memories, love, feelings, longing, and a desire to appreciate the little things. As my beautiful Aunt Betha said, ‘People in your generation need to experience this.’
Thank you to German Village Coffee Shop for allowing me to do this project; specifically, thank you to Craig, Tanya, Shannon, Mark, Nan, Andy, Ray, Chelsey, and Aaron.
These books are reproduced prints of original drawings. All books are handmade; the cutting, folding, and binding/casing-in are all done by the artist. All books are made-to-order. Books are signed on the inside back flap of the cover for softcover, and the last page for hardcover.
Books are also for sale in limited quantities at German Village Coffee Shop. I encourage you to visit there if you can! (Get the corned beef hash)
